It’s just four days to go until the Laguna Phuket Triathlon – the biggest, most challenging thing I’ve ever attempted and I’m still ill.

It sucks as I’ve been healthy for months and have even stayed off the booze for November but last Wednesday I started to come down with a cold which turned into man flu by Thursday morning….This has naturally affected my training as the LPT approaches….

Wednesday I was still feeling chipper and headed to the pool after the LPT and 70.3 press conference and did a really good swim session.

Thursday was wiped out by being ill and I spent the afternoon and evening feeling sorry for myself – altogether now; awwwwwwww.

Friday I wanted to get back out there but I realised that it wasn’t a good idea so that was another write off…

Saturday I thought it might be a good idea to have a swim in the sea seeing as I hadn’t done that before and spent some time swimming through waves, dodging jellyfish and practicing getting in and out of the water.

Sunday I decided it was time to try out the LPT bike course. It was baking hot and I had very little energy in my legs courtesy of the man flu. It was a pretty demoralising experience but at least I now know what’s in store for me….

Monday I went back in the pool, still feeling pretty tired so I decided to take things steady and did a 1.8km swim. I felt pretty comfortable and was pleased to discover that I’d done it in just over 30mins despite going fairly easy.

Yesterday I figured that it’d be good to take my jelly legs for a run seeing as how that’s how they’re gonna feel post biking 55km… It felt uncomfortable to begin with and the speed was never really there but I managed to make it round in 59 minutes which pleased me no end.

Hope to be fully fit come Sunday and it’s definitely going to be close between a lot of us Phuket firts timers – a bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone – BRING IT ON!
